CCDC Contributor | Published on 4/22/2025

Monique Sheffield isn’t someone who leaves things undone. So, while she has checked off a long list of accomplishments as District 4 representative on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, there’s more to do.

She is running to remain District 4 Commissioner in the April 29 special election against Republican Matthew Hardwick.

“My desire to serve residents of District 4 comes from a deep commitment to uplifting our community and ensuring every resident has access to opportunity, dignity, and a better quality of life,” Sheffield said. “I ran on a platform centered on improving our quality of life by expanding green space, increasing access to employment, and encouraging smart development. What motivates me daily is knowing that our residents deserve a community that thrives, and I believe that with the right leadership, we can achieve that together.”

During her first term, Sheffield:

  • Secured a $1 million earmark to expand healthcare and mental health services in underserved areas, a critical investment that directly addresses the health and wellness of the community

  • Approved a $2 million ARPA grant for computers and resources at the new WorkSource Cobb location in Mableton, empowering residents with the tools they need to succeed

  • Collaborated with the Trust for Public Lands on the 100-mile Chattahoochee Riverlands project to ensure three miles of this vital green space run through District 4, enhancing the natural beauty and recreational opportunities for residents

  • Launched CobbLinkGO — the county’s first tech-enabled, on-demand transit service that’s making transportation more accessible for everyone

  • Approved rezoning for the future site of the Tunnels to Towers affordable veteran housing residences.

These accomplishments align with her focus on health and wellness for the next term, including continued expansion of green spaces and leveraging natural assets for community well-being and economic development. She has been instrumental in attracting new businesses to the area, creating job opportunities, and supporting small business growth.

Sheffield's leadership is characterized by her consistent presence, follow-through, and purpose-driven collaborative approach. She works effectively with diverse stakeholders, actively engages with residents, businesses, and community organizations to gather input and ensure that decisions are made with the best interests of District 4 in mind. Her commitment to transparency and open communication has fostered a sense of trust and accountability within the community.

“From day one, I’ve worked to make District 4 stronger, healthier, and more connected. Whether it’s bringing more resources into our community, creating new job opportunities, or expanding services for families, I’ve delivered on my promises,” she said. “My experience gives me the insight to lead effectively, and my record proves I can be trusted to keep moving us forward.”
