Thousands Left Without a Voice, Again

JP Popham | Published on 2/5/2025

The political games played by Cobb County Republicans have again left their constituents without local representation.

The petulant childish behavior of Senators Edwin Setzler and John Carson have hurt thousands, as once again District 2 of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners is left without duly elected representation.

This news comes after the Georgia Supreme Court announced Wednesday morning that they would not hear the appeal of Jerica Richardson, who was drawn out of her seat by the gutless republicans.

GOP legislators may not have gotten the memo yet, but Cobb County is blue and no amount of nonsense they cook up is going to change that fact. Their poor leadership is showing the county what we already know, MAGA extremism does nothing but cause problems for everyday people.

Even within their own party republicans have thrown in the towel for their special election candidates and are promoting democrats across their social media groups and personal accounts.

“Why waste your vote?” commented one Nextdoor user when asked about supporting District 2’s GOP candidate.

Setzler and Carson wasted their energy on waving their arms in front of the state legislature and huffing out excuses as to why Richardson shouldn’t keep her seat. They cost the taxpayers by forcing a legal fight and now a special election while blaming Richardson for the mess they created.

They forced the two sole democratic commissioners into special elections while keeping the two republicans seats safe. They dared to hurl insults at local leaders while they worked to minimize the damage they caused.

Their time is short. Americans are waking up to the fact that once again Donald Trump and his ilk have sold them a bad bill of goods. Their party has no interest in the everyday person, only in enriching themselves and harming as many people as possible through acts of cruelty.

We’re seeing once again those radical and shameful ideologies championed by Setzler, Carson, and their cronies.

Let’s show these men that they aren’t as big as they pretend to be. Let’s continue to spread the word about the special election that these bumbling buffoons caused and make them regret spending political capital on their emotional tantrums.

The special primary election for Districts 2 and 4 are next Tuesday, Feb. 11 and the last day of early voting is Friday Feb. 7. If any runoffs are needed after the primary election they will be held on March 11. The general election will be held on April 29.
