We will be peacefully mobilizing members to the Georgia State Capitol to protest the republican party’s attempt to erase Black voting power in the State of Georgia.
Background: Now that the Supreme Court has paved the way, Governor Brian Kemp has called a special legislative session to redraw the Congressional maps before the 2030 census. We plan on being present on the first day of this special session, in the morning and when the session begins at 2 P.M. We want to invite you to join us when you can.
What You Need to Know: Please be advised, session begins at 2 P.M., but they will not immediately vote on the new maps. We do not know the timeline, schedule, or even the maps that are being proposed. We may not even have all of the details on the day of June 17. This is by republican design, keep the public in the dark until it is too late.
Our goal and mission is to show up on Day 1 and take up space. We will share the schedules of other organizations who will be there all week for those who want to join as well as what you can do if you can’t make it.
If you come, please bring a friend or use the event group chat to coordinate with others to secure rides and event buddies. This will be a busy day long event, happening during the World Cup, in downtown Atlanta. Parking and finding each other in the crowd will be difficult.
This will be a long day and not all of it will be easy, but we will not be silent as voting rights are erased in our state.
